If you’re looking for sushi in Menlo Park, California, Akasaka is the place for you. It isn’t cheap but it’s good. Is it the best sushi I’ve ever had? No, Zushi Puzzle is still my number one but Akasaka is definitely in the top 5. Now, I’m no sushi expert but I’ve had more than my fair share of tastings all over the country and the world. Sushi is one of those dishes for me that I could eat all the time. I love it! I adore it! I never get tired of it, just ask my husband. Lucky for me, he loves it too. So here is the sushi scoop for Akasaka.
Shrimp Dumpling to start. Easy to do and tasty to eat.
Soft Shell Crab to continue. This was better than expected. I would highly recommend it.
Sake Nigiri: Salmon. This is my most important indicator to see if the restaurant is any good. If their nigiri of any kind is not fresh…walk out!
Spicy Tuna Handroll: This is my other go-to. If they screw up this simple dish than you know that the meal is going down hill from there.
The Sand Hill Roll: Spicy Tuna, Salmon, Albacore, Avocado, Cucumber, Real Crab and Roe. This was pretty pricy ($12) but oh so good!
The Dynamite Roll: Spicy Tuna, Crab Meat, Asparagus, Fish Roe, Hot Sauce and more. This was another high price roll but also oh so good.
All and all the sushi here was pretty good. It was expensive ($90 for two people) it also include a bottle of sake and beer. Is it my favorite place, no. However, it is my go to when I’m down in Menlo Park and craving a little sushi.
