Pesce Seafood Bar + Restaurant

Not too long ago, I was looking at restaurants to try on Polk street with a friend.  Pesce kept coming up with rave reviews.   I thought it had to be good with over 500 reviews and 4 out of 5 stars. Sadly, that night would not be my first experience at Pesce.  Rather, a few weeks later I got the chance with some great friends.  I was blown away.  We were all blown away and the reviews were definitely right on! In my mind, it really should have had 5 stars but you can’t always please everyone.  Between the four us, we feasted like kings and queens.  My only wish was that I had  use of a better camera and not my iphone in a dark restaurant.  Usually, my iphone takes amazing photos but in a dark restaurant it just doesn’t work as well.

We also learned that the style of the restaurant was tapas which means everyone shares everything which I adore.  So most of the plates were small except our fish dishes which were meant as a whole meal.

Salmone Affumicato: House smoked Scottish salmon bruschetta with capers, red onion and horseradish cream.  (This appetizer was just okay but the quality of the smoked salmon was amazing.)

Carpaccio di Barbabietole: Thinly sliced roasted beets, radishes and pecorino ricotta.  (You can’t go wrong with this dish.  It’s always good no matter who makes it.)

Risotto Al Calamari: Squid ink risotto with calamari. (This picture doesn’t do this dish justice.  It was simply AMAZING.  This was my favorite dish of the night.  I could have eaten a whole bowl to myself. )

Capesante: Pan seared scallops with wild mushrooms, green onions, cream and truffle essence. (AMAZING…I could just lick the sauce up.  It was that good.)

Agnello: Merlot-braised lamb shank and oregano zucchini. (I love lamb even though it makes me sad to think about it.  But this was one of the best lamb dishes I’ve ever had.)

Entree Special:  Baked sole with butter lemon sauce and green beans.  (This dish was cleared in seconds.)

Entree Special: Red Snapper with a lot of good stuff.  (Our friends had this dish and the photo below shows how much they enjoyed it.  I didn’t have any because I was stuffed.)

There’s no better way to end an amazing meal but with a macchiato and vanilla bean gelato.  However, this gelato was so decadent that I couldn’t finish it.  It was basically ice cream.


Conclusion: Pesce is the cats meow! Go and try it for yourself.
