Calistoga, California

My man and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice weekend for our three year anniversary.  I felt that no place was better suited than Solage in Calistoga.  We decide to do this since we have not been on a vacation for just the two of us ever!  This high end resort is so laid back and eco-friendly.  Rather than rooms, you get these fun cabins with cruiser bikes so you can bike around the resort.  On top of all this awesomeness, the resort is extremely pet friendly.  They bring your furry pal comfy dog beds, bowls and treats upon your arrival.  They also have a great spa and an amazing Michelin-starred restaurant, Solbar.   What’s not to love! Oh, did I forgot that it’s surround by wine country and some of the finest restaurants in the state.

When we arrived we were treated to a plate of cheese and wine compliments of the resort.

The off to dinner! Solbar

The dinner started with a Kir Royale (crème de cassis with mumm napa “brut prestige”) for me and a La Résistance(junipero gin and fresh lemon topped up with mumm napa “brut prestige”) for my love.

An Assortment of yummy breads to enjoy before our meals arrive.

First Course (shared): Peanut crusted maryland soft shell crab fresh and dry corn salsa, avocado crema with pickled green tomatoes.

First Course (shared): Chilled brentwood sweet corn soup hass avocado and cilantro lime.

Main Course (mine): Bacon braised alaskan halibut, crispy king richard leek, banana fingerlings and leek top persillade.

Main Course (his): Grilled bodega bay king salmon cracked bulgur, roasted cucumber tzatziki, sultana-onion chutney and spanakopita.

After this meal, we couldn’t eat anymore (we ate everything!) and decided to go back to our room to enjoy the rest of the night.  This mean enjoying the wine they gave us!

We enjoyed some wine which I spilled on the back patio

Our dogs, Dooley (Min Pin Mix) and Izzy (German Shepherd) also enjoyed the relaxing outside

The Next Morning!

Enjoying the beautiful day with the dogs!

Off to Breakfast…back at Solbar!

Brannon Street Breakfast: Two eggs (over medium) with russet potato has browns, homemade sausage or bacon and your choice of toast (english muffin!).

After! (It’s that good)

Lunch Time

We hoped on the bikes and headed to downtown Calistoga.

My new favorite mexican meal…Sopas: Two fried corn masa palties layered with refried beans, chicken or beef, tomatoes, lettuce, tortilla salsa, cheese and sour cream.

Two crunchy tacos

The food here was so good and inexpensive.  We were craving mexican food and this place hit the spot!  I would highly recommend it.  It’s a bit of a hole in the wall but completely worth it.

Dinner Time

When we were in Sonoma a bit ago with friends, we became wine members at this amazing family owned winery, Hawkes Winery.  Since then, we receive emails on events they are having which are free to wine club members.  It just so happened that they were having a BBQ and music that weekend while we were in town.  It was incredibly fun, laid back and yummy.

The most amazing fried chicken sandwich.

The most amazing pulled pork sandwich.  Who would have thought that my search for amazing BBQ would lead to me Calistoga, California!  I could eat these two sandwichs every day but then I would be 200lbs.

Our view while enjoying our dinner at Hawkes!

The amazing entertainment, The Gluggers.
