Nashville is one of my favorite cities. It has great people, great food and of course great music. I don’t think it gets any better than that. The draw back is that it gets REALLY hot and humid in the summer. This is something that my San Francisco self can’t handle for long periods of time. The last time I was in Nashville I didn’t get great BBQ. So this time I made it a mission to achieve this goal. While I still believe that South Carolina has the BEST BBQ, Nashville came in a VERY close second place this time around.
The key for BBQ is to go authentic. Don’t go for some fancy restaurant. If it looks shady or off the beaten path, you’ve found the spot. Personally, the best BBQ places were off the side of the road or in some random shack. I’m always a little afraid for my health but in the end, it’s completely worth the risk.
Gourmet Ribs was that place for me in Nashville. It didn’t look shady but it was off the side of the road. The owners were so nice and helpful. The older guy thought I was some crazy Cali girl taking pictures but other than that, it was all good. All and all, it was mouth watering amazing!!!

Not so southern but found in Nashville, who would have thought?! I didn’t, and the food was so good. It was fresh, fast and made with love! This place was PACKED. Even NFL players came to lunch here. While eating, Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears, strolled in with his dad (I think) and some teammate. I’ve never seen a Pro Football player in person but these guys were HUGE. No one bugged them which was cool because everyone was focused on their meals. My only complaint is that they use my nemesis, styrofoam for their to go containers. Other than that, this place needs to come to San Francisco. It was a Mediterranean place with a flare! It gets a big thumbs up from me and apparently NFL players who big fans. If that doesn’t convince you, I don’t know what will?
