Café Castagna a french delight

What a great find!  This place was a true gem.  I always wanted to try this place but never had.  Then last night that all changed.  My fiancé and I had planned to go to our favorite place for dinner, Pacific Catch but something just made us want to try Café Castagna.  There was no one in the restaurant, so naturally we were a little hesitant.  However, once our first tasting came out, we were converted! Then without even noticing it, the place had gone from party of two to fully packed.

The atmosphere was great.  Everyone was laughing, eating and talking.  The staff was all french and incredibly nice and helpful.  The owner or manager (I’m not sure which one) came out to our table to ask us how everything was going.  The food was great, the settling was simple and the experience was fun.  It just felt like the Cheers of French bistro cuisine, “Where everyone knows your name!”

I think this will become one of our new spot.  It just felt like home.

A little sparkling water to start the meal off with a bang! Nothing says French when you drink a little Italian.

Compliments of the chef: Homemade Duck Pâté

It was simple but incredible.  I would have eaten plates and plates of this homemade delight! For those who aren’t sure about pâté, this is the one that you need to try.  You’ll be changed.

Tartara de thon: Ahi tuna, green onions, diced tomatoes, cilantro, olive oil, shallots, ginger, soy sauce wasabi coulis with a balsamic reduction.

The flavor of the wasabi was great. I could just lick it all up with the combination of the reduction.  It was a very simple but a clever plate.

Love the chips they used. I think they were beet chips….not sure

My main meal, Les Moules Marinère: White wine, shallots, parsley, Noilly Pratt and BUTTER!

They are recommended with french fries but I opted to go the healthy route with a side green salad.

A simple green salad with a balsamic vinaigrette…yum!!!

Steak au Poivre: Grilled steak with a green peppercorn sauce, served with french fries (CLASSIC FRENCH MEAL)

What I loved is that this steak doesn’t really look like much but the flavor was oh so good (I had a bite)!  It just goes to show you that you can’t judge a “book by its cover!”   So for all those people who don’t want to try something new or something simple, get over yourself because you’ll be amazed.

We finished the meal with Noisettes (Expresso with a drop of steamed milk)….another classic!
